BENNETT MEDIA SNACK BAR

There are a lot of things that are upsetting and terrifying in Twilight Zone: The Movie, but one of them has always been equally intriguing. In Joe Dante's segment, "It's a Good Life" we are confronted with quite a disturbed child. He is equal parts lonely and mystical mixed together, creating a concoction so insane that only wackiness can ensue. He forces his guest to stay for dinner in his house of hilarious horrors, and of course his ideal feast is fitting for his madness. Most of of the meal is comprised of childhood snack staples, such as potato chips, a strawberry Hoodsie cup, and a nutty caramel apple. But the pièce de résistance is a plain hamburger topped with peanut butter.

Bennett Media decided we had to recreate this special dish to watch alongside this most fantastic feature; diets and food sensitivities be damned. Most of the ingredients were easy to obtain, although we couldn't find the strawberry Hoodsie cup, and had to substitute with a vanilla one with strawberry topping. For the burger, we settled on a McDonald's plain patty smothered with creamy goodness.

While I won't add this meal to our menu rotation any time soon, I have to admit that the burger was interesting. It had a perfectly paired sweet and salty mix. It's good that way! We were, however, very bummed to notice while watching the movie that we missed one important component to our dinner: on their plates are also a few Keebler Fudge Stripe Cookies.

The next day we bought a spooky box of them and honored our meal, in the hopes that we didn't offend Anthony.

Film: Amadeus (1984)

Recipe: Chocolate Nipples

1 8oz Package of Cream Cheese, Softened
1 Package of Oreos
1 Bag of Chocolate Chips (variations can be substituted)

1. Grind up Oreos in a food processor or just smash them to small bits in a plastic bag. (the smaller the pieces the easier it stays together)

2. Take the softened cream cheese and knead the cookie bits together with your hands until fully mixed. When all mixed, pop into the freezer for about 30 minutes.

3. Use a double boiler to melt the chocolate chips. Once the chocolate is melted, begin to make small bits of c.c./cookie mix. Dip the balls into the chocolate with a spoon, roll it around, and place on wax paper to harden. When finished, freeze or refrigerate. Serve cold.
